PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND

Florida State UniversityI am a 1964 graduate of Florida State University, Tallahassee, Florida, with a B.S. degree in Business Education.  I grew up in the small town of Punta Gorda, Florida, and graduated from Charlotte County High School--at the time the only high school in the county.

The CitadelIn 1972 I earned a Masters of Arts in Teaching from The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina. Our 3rd daughter, Nancy, is the first woman graduate of The Citadel. She graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1999 (matriculated in 1997) with a degree in Business Administration.

Nova Southeastern University In 1999 I completed an Ed.D. in Curriculum Development from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.  My applied dissertation was concerned with developing delivery systems for educating secondary school teachers in the use of technology to enhance the learning experience for their students.

National Board Professional Teacher CertificationIn 2001 I achieved national certification in Career & Technical Education for Young Adults. I have also achieved certification in Microsoft Office Applications and IC3 computing certifications.

Personal Notes: We have four grown and married children and nine grandchildren. My husband is retired from the US Army, and we live near Charleston, South Carolina. Our current "four-legged herd" includes two very spoiled dogs and one "in-charge" feline, named Boss.

MISSION STATEMENT

I believe that as a teacher in a culturally diverse society, it is my responsibility to:

  • Provide an educational environment that is all inclusive and that meets the needs of every student.

  • Develop and promote a quality occupational education program.

  • Develop in students the ability to think critically, to apply learning to real-world situations, and to solve problems.

  • Strive to ever increase my technical knowledge and expertise so that I may lead students in the acquisition of skills and competencies mandatory for personal and professional success.

  • Find opportunities to enrich each student’s vision of their tomorrow.

  • Help each student open the doors of opportunity and personal fulfillment.

  • Assist in building an environment of collaboration, support, and professional growth at all levels of my professional community.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe that a person’s life should be focused on that which is morally and ethically correct; that we as individuals should work toward the common good through increased communication between and among all members of our diverse community of humankind; that the process of change is inevitable and to the extent that we learn to manage and grow with change, we will become better teachers, learners, and members of our global community; that by seeking first to understand, we will be understood; and finally that in working together for the betterment of all children, we will open the doors of opportunity for generations to come.

VISION

It is my vision that learning should be a life-long activity and that if we continue to learn, change is the concomitant result. Participation in the any learning experience will result, I hope, in my being of greater service to my family, my school, and my community.

If I am to meet the challenges I see in the future, then I must seek to develop leadership skills, broaden my knowledge base, and grow personally and professionally in such a way so as not to disappoint myself or others, especially those who need us the most–our students.

To be technologically well versed,

        to be educationally sound,

                to be sensitive and caring

in all areas of my life,

                                personally and professionally,

that is my VISION for the future.                                    ©Anne J. Mace, 1999
