You can check your connection and computer and download the Javascript necessary for participating. On the night of the meeting, the URL will be open at 6:45 pm or 15 minutes before the meeting starts. I hope everyone will be able to participate. Jump to the Elluminate information below.

WEB DESIGN COURSE DOCUMENTS:

  • Web Design (generic) Course Syllabus: Word format or PDF format.
  • Welcome phone call notes in Word or PDF format; these are the topics I discuss with students & parents during our first telephone contact.
  • Checklist (PDF format) for course start up readiness
  • Download the Practice Files Folder by clicking here. These files are also available in the Moodle course area.

INSTRUCTIONAL MOVIE LINKS

You will need Flash Player on your computer to view these moies. It is a free download from the Adobe site.

Welcome to Moodle video link: (Allow a couple of minutes for this Flash file to download--time will vary according to the type of Internet connection you are using).

Directory structure demonstration movie link (this is an old movie created when Web Design had a different learning management system); however, the directory creation process is the same.

Click here to go to the Demonstration Movie page. You will find movies which "walk" you through various technical aspects of developing a web site.

Open Office Suite link
(This is a free, compatible application alternative to Microsoft Office and should be used if you do not own a MSOffice license)

Notepad++ download link: this free text editing application is used to create and validate html pages instead of using your Windows Notepad application. Recommend that you use Notepad++ because it color codes tags and thus helps you find coding errors.

Progress Reports: Sent out the 1st and 15th of each month; we report current grade and whether or not a student is "on pace". A final grade is recorded at the end of the course. PARENTS: sign up for a Parent/Guardian account so that you will receive these reports and other communication from your child's instructor(s) directly to YOUR VSA account.

Final Exam Information: Will be available in the Moodle course area. I will send out the requirements in a VSA message, and will publish the details toward the end of the course--in plenty of time for students to make the necessary arrangements.

*Elluminate Sessions:
Elluminate is a tool we use to hold class meetings on line. This is a way for us to connect and share as a learning group! Please visit the web site and download the required Java script application.

If you have speakers, you will be able to hear me speak; if you wish for me to hear you speak, you will need a headphone/microphone set (available for about $15 at a Best Buy or Staples). If you do not have a mic, we can still communicate by texting in a window at the site. The biggest advantage is an ability to see and do--I can demo real time using the application or doing the steps you are having trouble with.

Please note that vRoom requires Sun's Java Web Start to be installed on your computer. If you do not have Java Web Start, you will be provided with instructions on how to install it prior to joining the vRoom. The installation process takes only a few minutes.

Minimum vRoom System Minimum Requirements:
To get the most out of your vRoom experience, you will need:

  • 20 MB free disk space
  • Sound card with speakers and a microphone, or headset
  • 28.8 kbps Internet connection

Virtual Office:
I have established a virtual office @ the Elluminate Web Site the link is published on the Web Design I couse page in Moodle. If you want to talk to or message me in this real time, virtual environment, please e-mail me the day, time you wish to meet. I will then create and send you a link for our session.

SKYPE: is another way for us to communicate in real time and share or show screens for help or guidance with course material. My SKYPE User ID is: maceaj
